Las Vegas Airport Traffic Crashes in November

Las Vegas Airport Traffic Crashes in November

Even this year's Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix failed to halt the year-long decrease in passenger traffic at Harry Reid International Airport, which saw its biggest monthly decline of 2025 in November.

In comparison to the same month last year, LAS saw over 450,000 fewer passengers in November, according to the airport's monthly report, which was made public on Tuesday. There were 4.3 million in all, a 9.6% decrease.

That decline was the ninth consecutive month of year-over-year declines, surpassing October's 8.2% decline.

The most recent monthly increase in passengers occurred in January, when there was a slight 0.4% increase in traffic.

Reid has handled 50.6 million passengers so far this year, a 5.5% decrease from the same time in 2024. The totals for December will be made public in late January.

Canada is to blame

The biggest decline was in international travel. In November, there were 239,500 passengers, a 21.2% decrease in arrivals and departures. However, the downturn did not affect all international markets equally.

With small gains ranging from 0.2% to 9%, European airlines, such as British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, KLM, and Aer Lingus, were either flat or slightly higher. Canada, which has historically been one of Las Vegas' most dependable foreign suppliers, was the source of the actual collapse.

The following year-over-year decreases were seen by Canadian airlines:

  • Air Canada: –40%
  • Porter Airlines: –33.9%
  • WestJet: –29.7%
  • Flair Airlines: –87%

90,691 passengers were transported into Las Vegas by the four carriers collectively, a decrease from 151,443 the previous year.

Domestic Traffic: Widespread Drops with a Few Highlights

In November, there were 4 million domestic passengers, an 8.8% decrease. Only Southwest and United had gains among the top five US carriers at Reid.

  • Southwest Airlines: +3.4% in November (1.8 million passengers); +0.6% YTD to 20 million
  • United Airlines: +7.9% in November (382,748 passengers); +3.3% YTD to 4 million

The biggest jumps were recorded by two mid-tier carriers:

  • Alaska Airlines: +45.4% to 251,871 passengers
  • JetBlue: +23.4% to 82,279 passengers

Although both companies continued to operate independently for the majority of 2025, Alaska's rise comes after it acquired Hawaiian Airlines in 2024.

The Death of Spirit

Spirit Airlines, which is still under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, saw a 69.9% drop in Las Vegas passengers in November, at 190,845. In the midst of ongoing shutdown fears, the airline recently obtained $100 million in short-term debtor-in-possession funding to stabilize operations.

No F1 Nitro Boost

Officials stressed that the November decline does not seem to be connected to the F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, despite conjecture. F1 attendees may have come by connecting planes or charters, which are not included in the international totals because Reid's figures only include nonstop international arrivals.
