Woman Shot at Missouri Casino Garage, Fighting for Life in Hospital

A 27-year-old woman sustained life-threatening injuries when she was shot Saturday in the parking garage of the Ameristar Casino Resort Spa St. Charles in Missouri.

The unidentified victim needed surgery at a nearby hospital after being shot in the neck around 2:30 a.m., as reported by St. Louis, Mo. Television channel KTVI.

The St. Charles Police Department was notified and quickly arrived at the location.

The victim, located on the second level of the parking garage, informed officers of her shooter’s name.

Soon after, Calvin Koong, 50, from St. Louis, faced charges of first-degree domestic assault, first-degree kidnapping, and armed criminal action.

He stayed in detention at the St. Charles County Jail as of late Saturday. His bail was established at $500K.

Authorities stated that he was the boyfriend of the victim.

Victim Inside Stationary Vehicle

According to Missouri TV station KSDK, the victim was in a vehicle belonging to Koong, as shown in casino surveillance footage.

She was seated in the driver's position, and the driver's door was ajar. The woman seemingly attempted to exit the vehicle. Koong shoved the woman back into the vehicle, and the two engaged in what was referred to as a struggle, according to police.

She finally managed to escape from the vehicle. However, just a few feet away, she collapsed onto the garage pavement after being injured.

Kind Samaritans quickly came to her aid and offered immediate first aid assistance. They also notified the authorities.

Koong escaped, but couldn’t exit the area due to a concrete obstruction in the parking garage.

A security guard from Ameristar Casino quickly showed up and noticed Koong.

Admitted to Firing a Gun

The officer captured the suspect. He admitted to the guard, “I killed her.” “I fired at her.” Koong later admitted to the police officers, according to KSDK.

Koong was taken into custody by the officers. They also examined the suspect’s vehicle and discovered a gun. It was taken as proof.

The matter was handed over to local authorities. If found guilty, Koong may face prison time.

Authorities did not disclose a reason for the gunfire.

The victim was hurried to the hospital's emergency department. No updates on the victim’s condition as of late Saturday. Police did not promptly disclose specifics regarding her injuries.

Charges may be elevated if the woman does not survive.
